Aid Delivered to Cuba

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters, the Cuba Vive Medical Aid Appeal has raised more than £280,000 to provide life-saving medical and hurricane relief aid to Cuba.

Between February 2025 – March 2026, six major consignments have been delivered. With the addition of donated medical supplies, this represents more than £1.3 million worth of medical and food aid reaching communities across the island.

February 2025
A shipment worth €62,000 was flown from Spain containing urgently needed medical equipment. This first consignment included:

  • 30,000 blood transfusion sets
  • 20,000 blood infusion sets
  • 14,000 paediatric catheters
  • 19,450 endotracheal intubation tubes

These essential items are used to deliver oxygen, medicines and anaesthesia, and to support breathing during serious illness and trauma. Read more>>

March 2025
A 40ft shipping container delivered £485,000 worth of medical aid, including:

  • PPE facemasks, eye protectors and gloves
  • 1,888 litres of surgical scrub
  • Thousands of medicines and creams
  • Colostomy bags
  • Crutches, wheelchairs, trolleys and hospital beds
  • Nebulisers and ultrasound equipment
  • Surgical instruments and sterilisation equipment
  • Bandages, dressings, syringes and needles

October 2025
Two 40-foot shipping containers were dispatched:

  • One to hospitals in eastern Cuba affected by the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa
  • One to hospitals in Havana and other provinces

Supplies included PPE, specialised operating beds, hospital-grade mattresses, mobility aids, pharmacy fridges, ultrasound machines, nebulisers, surgical supplies, oxygen masks and tubing.

More than 100 first aid kits were also distributed to residential educational establishments, including rural schools and children’s homes. Read more>>

December 2025
In response to Hurricane Melissa, 23 tonnes of powdered milk were purchased and shipped from Chile. This provided vital nutrition for children, pregnant women and older people – those most vulnerable to food shortages following the storm. Read more>>

March 2026
A further container, valued at £330,000, is due to arrive in Havana carrying:

  • Catheters and tracheostomy sets
  • Needles and colostomy bags
  • Wheelchairs and Zimmer frames
  • Operating theatre supplies, including 13 specialist operating beds

April 2026
An emergency food shipment of 24 tonnes of rice and lentils is currently on its way to Cuba and is due to arrive in April.
