Warwick NEU social and fundraiser

On 15 March NEU Warwickshire District organised a fantastic evening of politics, live music, dancing, food and heaps of solidarity with the Cuban people that raised £904 for the Cuba Vive appeal.  We were delighted to have three inspiring guest speakers. Lauren Ekins – primary school teacher, NEU rep from Southend, and participant in the 2024 education delegation to Cuba – gave an impassioned talk with a moving audio-visual presentation about the visit. “Cuba is so much more than a Revolution that happened over 60 years ago. The social policy built on the foundations of the Revolution prioritises equality, education, international solidarity and social conscience. This was so clear to us in every school we visited, every speaker we listened to and every person we met,” she said. CSC Secretary Bernard Regan spoke about Cuban internationalism and medical support for countries in need around the world. He condemned the flagrant injustice of Trump placing Cuba back on the ‘State Sponsors of Terrorism’ list.o. We were truly honoured to welcome Orestes Martínez, Cuban Embassy Press Secretary as our guest speaker. Orestes passed on the appreciation and thanks from the Cuban ambassador for our work in solidarity. Guests enjoyed a delicious Cuban-style buffet, a raffle with Cuban-themed prizes and an amazing performance by the London based Salsa band Sabor a Cuba, who had everyone up on their feet.
