Solidarity from the South West

On 24 and 25 January, Cuban ambassador Ismara Vargas Walter and CSC Campaigns and Communications Manager Natasha Hickman spoke at a cross-union fringe meeting in Exeter organised by South West UNISON, and the next morning addressed UNISON’s Regional Council meeting to raise awareness of the Cuba Vive appeal. At the fringe, films were shown to highlight Cuba’s medical achievements, internationalism and the impact of the blockade on healthcare. Addressing the Regional Council, the Cuban ambassador thanked the region for supporting the appeal: “Every pound raised, every letter written, every syringe collected, every voice lifted in support of Cuba sends a powerful message, we are not alone in this struggle. Thanks to your efforts, Cuban hospitals have received essential medical supplies. On behalf of my people, I thank you for standing with Cuba, for raising your voices against injustice, and for believing in the power of solidarity. Cuba will not give up so please do not give up on Cuba.”
