UNISON regions agree to launch health appeal

In October 2023, four UNISON regions met at an annual international weekend in Glasgow where they heard from North West delegates who had recently returned from a delegation to Cuba. The delegates reported on the shortages and difficulties facing health care workers that they had witnessed for themselves.

Cuban ambassador Barbara Montalvo also spoke to the meeting giving many examples of how the US blockade was preventing access to life-saving medicines and equipment.

Following the meeting the four regions present, North West, Northern, Northern Ireland and Scotland agreed to support a medical appeal for Cuba to be launched in January 2024.
