Join the final push to reach our £100,000 target
The Cuba Vive medical aid appeal is on course to reach our £100,000 fundraising target, and hopefully beyond, thanks to the kind donations of CSC supporters.
The Cuba Solidarity Campaign is grateful to all our members, local groups, trade union affiliates and supporters who have helped to raise more than £80,000 in less than seven months. This will ensure that CSC can send at least one container of life-saving medical aid to Cuba later this year.
“Thank you for launching this appeal and showing that the Cuban people are not alone in their daily struggle against the inhumane US blockade”
Ismara Mercedes Vargas Walter, Cuban Ambassador
A matter of life and death
The medicines and equipment sent to Cuba will help to save lives. Cuba’s report to the UN in 2023 highlighted the case of a six-year-old girl whose battle against cancer had been jeopardised due to the blockade.
“While it was possible to provide her with the chemotherapy needed to combat the [cancer] growth,” the report said, “she could not be given Lomustine, the drug of choice in the treatment of advanced tumours of this type that affect the central nervous system — and unobtainable due to the blockade.”
She has now relapsed. For this girl, like many other Cuban children, the blockade of their country is a matter of life and death.
